I operated as a Rover-Limited for the August 2010 ARRL UHF and utilized 70 cm FM/SSB/CW and 223.5 MHz FM only. The contest time period matched existing travel plans from Southern California to Seattle, WA, so I was able to conduct "Trans-Coast" Rover operations. On Saturday, I operated for a short period of time at the beginning of the contest from a minor hilltop near my home QTH (DM04) and then later for a few minutes from a grocery store parking lot near LAX (DM03). On Sunday morning, I operated from the top of a 500 foot ridgeline at the south end of Whidbey Island (CN87). I set up by 8:30 AM and called "CQ" for almost 50 minutes before anyone got on the air. I was afraid that I might not work anyone from my CN87 QTH if the WWA/OR guys had elected not to be active on Sunday morning! By 10 AM, I had moved north to Freeland, WA, and spent some time transmitting from CN88. Highlight of my long distance mini Trans-Coast Rove was working N6ZE/R (CN88rb) > KI7JA (CN85rl) on 432 MHz SSB at a distance of 175 statute miles (282 km). I devoted about 3 hours to the contest. I used an FT857D (10 watts) and an 11 element M2 yagi for 70 cm (or a 1/4 wavelength whip). I used a TM331-A with a 3/4 wavelength whip for 223.5 MHz FM.

K7AWB, Operator K7AWB. DN17
IC-910 into 21 element 420 MHz beam at 20 feet; used same beam on 1.2 GHz.
