Soapbox Comments

N6ZE: WWA
Mostly used SSB, some FM and two CW QSO contacts. Best DX CO-90 on 2m & 70cm. All 135cm contacts using Ukranian Transverter and 5 element WA5VJB Cheapie Yagi. Briefly heard CN85 on 2 meters, but no QSOs South of CN86. Enjoyed operating from my deck overlooking the Puget Sound.

No Es, as far a I could tell, but a fun time anyway. Lots of good tropo to the usual suspects: KA6BIM down in CN73, W7MEM out in DN17, and also WR7X in DN04. A few new callsigns, which is always nice too. And I gave my new 432 antenna a workout, with encouraging results. Also the new 222MHz transverter, which scored me a few QSO's despite the low power and fixed antenna. Thanks for all the QSO's!

Only worked the contest on Sunday and got a late start but lots of activity for the last day.

KF7XC, KD7DY, AC7GL, and I operated from DN12 south of War Eagle Mountain in the Owyhee's at 7950ft. The last half mile to our operating location involved some road clearing. We chose DN12, a rarer grid, hoping for a 6m opening which did not happen for us. Our location did provide line of sight to most of SW Idaho and we had ideal weather.

The K7SWI club was doing at POTA at Deer Flat NWR and provided nearly all the qso's on 33 and 23cm at a distance of 41 miles.

We had an issue with our 6m Yagi and finally threw up a Moxon 4 hours into the contest. We did manage several MSK qso's Sunday morning.

Of special note, we did work W7FSI on both 2m and 70cm from his lookout location on Pinyon Peak at 9947 ft north of Stanley 140 miles from our location. He was using a 5w HT.

This was our AI7ID Contest Clubs first time operating multi-op portable and we had a great time. Thank you everyone in the NW for the QSO's!

Late start, but made it to Lion Rock around 7 pm. Road from north is in rough shape, with long stretches of loose sharp rock. It took 45 minutes to do the 9 miles from Blewett Pass.

Made some CN98 and west side CN97 on my way to the drier side. Camped overnight on Lion Rock.

Using 6M and 2M loops when traveling, everything requires a long stop and setup.
