The photos are from my portable operation on Mt Craig for the Sept ARRL VHF contest.
The picture of the weird wire antenna is what I came up with when I realized I had left my long 432 MHz yagi at home. Luckily, I had along a wire POTA antenna which I chopped into 3 quad elements, affixed them to stick spreaders with fishing line and painter's tape. Using one of my extra feedlines I was able to actually make a few contacts with this antenna. The furthest DX south of Portland. Measurements on request, but I think next time I'll make an extra effort to remember to bring the "real" 432 MHz antenna.
A first time operating in the Olympic mountains with a nearby forest fires. The Tunnel Creek fire was a couple of miles west of me and from my location I could see large trees flaming up Roman candles. That, and the smoke didn't help me sleep much Saturday night.

Interesting contest from my operating position on back deck overlooking Puget Sound to Mt. Baker and Cascade Mountains. Summer day on Saturday and rain/mist all day Sunday. No DX noted, only heard 1 Portland, OR station on CW at that.

WX was sunny and warm Saturday, had some interesting tropo to start. Sunday was wet in the morning and cool/dry in the afternoon. May have discouraged some Rovers making an effort this weekend. Sunday AM had some intersing MS, considering it was September. Last hour was a suprise with some strong AU. Just a couple stations on. Never know what might pop up at the end of a Contest.
